Pat Edwards

My name is Pat Edwards and I am a first year student from Valley Center, Kansas. I graduated from Newman University in Wichita, Kansas in the spring of 2007 with a double-major in History and Secondary Education and minors in Mathematics Education and Political Science. While at Newman, I was active as a Student Ambassador and a four-year member of the men’s basketball team.

In my junior year of college, I took Constitutional Law to satisfy a political science requirement. During this class, I became very interested in the subject matter and began thinking seriously about law school. After doing some research and talking with a few local lawyers, I decided to go for it.

I applied to several law schools through out the Midwest, but eventually decided upon KU because of the faculty’s open-door policy, the reasonable tuition, and the positive learning environment. The faculty is very helpful and bends over backwards for students. The tuition and costs allow students to attend law school and not accrue a mountain of debt. Also, the other students and law school staff help create an atmosphere that is supportive and accepting.

Just one week after I graduated from undergrad, I began as a summer starter at KU. I have become involved in Student Ambassadors, the Community Service Commission and Traffic Court. I fell in love with both the school and the city. Massachusetts Street has many fun restaurants and bars. A wide variety of musicians and bands come to town for concerts. The lakes and golf courses in the area also offer outdoor enjoyment. There is something for everyone.

I strongly encourage you to consider KU among your choice of law schools. Come visit our campus and take a look for yourself. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pedwards@ku.edu.
