Most students will fund their legal education through scholarships,
grants, and loans. Scholarships and grants may come from KU Law and outside sources.
Students are encouraged to pursue funding from outside sources approximately a year before
they intend to enroll in classes. Loans may be federally funded, including the Stafford loan

Qualifying students are eligible for financial assistance from a variety of sources including direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans,
Perkins loans, work-study and KU tuition grants. In addition, the GRAD PLUS loan program is available to eligible graduate
and professional students.
How do I apply for financial aid?
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available
online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. For more information, contact the OSFA.
When do I apply for financial aid?
The OSFA will begin accepting FAFSA applications on January 1. The priority deadline is March 1.
How do I apply for summer financial aid?
In addition to completing a FAFSA, complete a Summer Financial Aid
Request form. This form is available from the OFSA in mid-February.
How and when will I be notified of my financial aid award?
The OSFA will send award notifications by email beginning April 1. Accept or
decline your financial aid award by visiting the link contained in your email notification.
What if I have special circumstances, such as childcare or
medical costs that make the need for more financial aid important?
Re-evaluations for special circumstances as well as child care budget
adjustments are available. Contact the OSFA at (785) 864-4700 to make an appointment with a
peer advisor.
What types of KU Law scholarships are available?
Federal Student Aid is available to law students based on cost of attendance.
Students are eligible for up to $18,500.00 in federal student aid. This figure includes
subsidized and unsubsidized loans, scholarships and grants. The GRAD PLUS loan program is
available for law students to borrow up to their cost of attendance.
How do I apply for scholarships offered by KU Law?
There is no separate application. All admitted applicants are automatically
considered for merit-based scholarships. To be considered for need-based scholarships, applicants
must complete the FAFSA. The priority application deadline for scholarship consideration is February 1.

How much does law school cost?
Kansas resident tuition is 394.65 per credit hour. Non resident tuition is 729.05
per credit hour. All students must pay a campus fee of $377.75 per semester. Please see the
