The Board of Governors serves as the voice of the alumni to the law school. Board members represent numerous districts within and outside Kansas. In accordance with the bylaws of the KU Law Alumni, new board members are elected each year during the Homecoming reception.

Districts 1 through 4 correspond to the Kansas Congressional districts. District 5 is the Kansas City, Missouri, metropolitan area. District 6 is all states east of the eastern borders of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana. District 7 is all states west of the eastern borders of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana, except Kansas, Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii. District 8 shall consist of Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii. District 9 shall be an at-large district that may be represented by governors from any geographical area, at the discretion of the Nominating Committee. District 9 shall be an optional district and the Board need not nominate members to represent this district each year. The year in parenthesis after a District Governor's name indicates the year in which the Governor's term expires.
