Bar Exam



Missouri Bar

To obtain a license to practice law in Missouri, applicants must comply with all provisions of Rule 8, including:

  • have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • create a MBLE Registration account
  • pass the Bar of the State of Missouri
  • obtain a minimum score of 80 on the MPRE
  • gain approval of their Character and Fitness (C&F) application

The Missouri Bar Examination is given on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July in Jefferson City, Mo.

Bar Application deadlines and Fees
(must be postmarked or received by the Clerk of the Supreme Court)


February exam:

  • Oct. 1: Bar application (fee varies based on timing and application status of C&F)
  • Dec. 31: Late bar application (fee varies based on timing and application status of C&F)

July exam:

  • March 1: Bar application (fee varies based on timing and application status of C&F)
  • May 31: Late bar application (fee varies based on timing and application status of C&F)

Applications are not accepted for the February exam before Sept. 1 or for the July exam before Feb. 1.


Character and Fitness Application


Application for Character and Fitness Report must be completed online. Applicants must PRINT, SIGN and MAIL all required application forms, together with the required fee as determined in the current fee schedule. Law students are encouraged to file an Application for Character and Fitness Report as soon as they begin law school.


Fingerprinting Application


Applicants submitting the Application for Character and Fitness Report for the first time must submit their fingerprints electronically through L-1 Identity Solutions. Contact L-1 Identity Solutions at (866) 522-7067 or register online for an appointment to be fingerprinted.


Transcripts


Applicant must request official academic transcripts to be mailed directly to the Missouri Board of Law Examiners by the applicant's school. The transcript must include the date J.D. degree was awarded.

Requests for official academic transcripts from KU must be directed to the University Registrar. Please see the University Registrar's Web site for more information.

The Missouri Bar Examination includes 1) the essay examination (Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) and questions prepared by the Missouri Board of Law Examiners), 2) the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and 3) the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE).
