Michael J. Malone was appointed to the district court bench in 1982, and presides over civil and criminal jury trials. Judge Malone served as chief judge of the Douglas County District Court from 1989 to 2003. Prior to being appointed judge, he served as the District Attorney for Douglas County, where he tried over sixty jury trials. He serves on the Pattern Instructions Kansas Committee and the Criminal Law Advisory Committee for the Kansas Judicial Council. He has also served on the faculty of the National College on Judicial Conduct and Ethics. From time to time, Judge Malone has been invited to sit with the Kansas Supreme Court and the Kansas Court of Appeals. Judge Malone has served as an adjunct law professor for KU since 1979.
