Jelani Jefferson Exum joined the KU Law faculty in 2007. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College. Before coming to KU Law, she was a Forrester Fellow and Instructor in Legal Writing at Tulane Law School. She has also served as a law clerk for Judge James L. Dennis, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and Judge Eldon E. Fallon, of the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. Her research interests include criminal law, criminal procedure, and race and American law, with a focus on federal sentencing and comparative criminal procedure.
