Mandatory Hooding Ceremony Information Meeting

If you are participating in the Hooding Ceremony, you must attend a meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 in Room 104. At this meeting, we will review the ceremony process and you will pick up your Hooding Ceremony tickets and class composite picture.

Voting for Hooder and Marshals

The third-year class votes to select faculty members who will be asked to serve as the Marshals (they lead the class into and out of the Lied Center auditorium for the hooding and down the Hill for commencement) and the Hooder. You will be notified when the ballot is available.

Announcement Cards

A representative from CB Graduation Announcements will have a table set up in the Informal Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014.  For more information, visit www.cbgrad.com.

Graduation Regalia

Regalia (hood, robe, tam and tassel) will be available for purchase from the Kansas Union Bookstore. A representative from the bookstore will have a table set up in the Informal Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, to take orders.

Seating Availability

All family and friends attending the Hooding Ceremony, including young children, must have a ticket. Graduates will not need a ticket. Due to the limited seating in the Lied Center, there will be a sign-up for hooding tickets on the table in the second-floor formal commons area starting on March 1 and ending March 31. Please make sure to note on the sign-up whether any of your guests need special accommodations (wheelchair/limited mobility, etc.) There isn’t a limit to how many tickets you can request; however, if every graduate requests tickets, you will receive 8-12 tickets. If you request fewer than the minimum number allotted, you will only receive the number requested. Seating locations will be determined on a random lottery basis. We will try to keep families seated together. Tickets will be distributed at the Hooding Ceremony Information Meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Room 104.

Appropriate Attire

There is no formal dress code for the Hooding Ceremony. However, it is recommended that you wear flat or low-heeled shoes. Additionally, it is helpful to have something to anchor your hood if you are planning to participate in the University Commencement ceremony. Safety pins or a buttoned shirt usually work well.

Ceremony Schedule

Please arrive at the Lied Center by 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. The ceremony will begin promptly at 1 p.m. and will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Ceremony Instructions for Graduates
