Library Policies

LOAN POLICY

A significant portion of the Law Library's collection does not circulate (eg. reference materials, periodicals, primary materials, etc.).

Items that do circulate include Reserve items which are loaned for four hours and some classified works which can be checked out for one month, but can be recalled after two weeks. Classified materials can be renewed providing there are no hold requests on them.

Fees and replacement costs are assessed for lost materials.

PHOTOCOPYING

A photocopy machine is located on the main floor near the Circulation Desk and on third floor. The charge is eight cents a page for black and white copies when using your KU ID (KU affiliates), the KU Library Borrower card (public), or a Visitor/Guest login (available for purchase at the Circulation Desk).

LOST AND FOUND

Items found in the library are kept at the Circulation Desk.

FOOD, DRINK, SMOKING

Smoking and other tobacco use is not permitted in the building, including the library.

Snacks and beverages may be consumed away from library collections, computers, and equipment. For example, at carrels or study tables but not while seated at library computers or finding books in the stacks. Please dispose of all trash in appropriate containers so that a clean environment can be maintained. Report any spills you cannot effectively clean up to library staff so that appropriate action can be taken.

CELL PHONES

Library users are asked to silence all cell phones while in the library. Also, calls should be made/answered outside the library.

GROUP STUDY ROOMS, CARRELS, AND TABLES

Law students may reserve group study rooms (located on the first and fourth floors) by signing up at the Circulation Desk. There is a limit of 8 hours per week per student.

Carrels are available to law students* on a first-come first-served basis on 1st, 3rd, and 4th floors. Sharing is encouraged due to the limited number of carrels. Sign up sheets will be available on those floors at the beginning of the fall semester.
* Law Review and Law Journal will assign 5th floor carrels to their staff

Any library users may study at the large tables located in the Reference Area and in the stacks on 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors.

RESHELVING BOOKS

Library users are requested to reshelve books whenever possible for everyone's convenience.
