Alumnus wins judicial seat in West Virginia

A Republic state senator in West Virginia and a 1975 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law recently won election as a circuit court judge in Division 2 of West Virginia's 23rd Judicial District.

John C. Yoder, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., ran against Democrat Michael D. Lorensen to fill an open seat that will be left when the current judge retires.

Yoder began his legal career as a district court judge in the 9th Judicial District in Kansas in 1976, which is equivalent to a circuit court judge in West Virginia. He later served as a Supreme Court Fellow and then as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, appointed by the Reagan administration.
