A University of Kansas Law professor will take on a new role in guiding law faculty research efforts this fall.

Christopher R. Drahozal, the John M. Rounds Professor of Law, has been appointed associate dean for research and faculty development.

“Chris is extraordinarily well-positioned by both his accomplishments and his interests to help lead our scholarly enterprise,” said Gail Agrawal, dean of the law school. “He has long been an unofficial adviser-of-choice for young scholars seeking guidance on their research agenda, comments on their drafts, and assistance with the placement of their work.

“In this new role, Chris will take on official responsibility for tasks he has long performed informally.”

Those tasks include mentoring untenured faculty and encouraging and facilitating faculty research. Drahozal will continue to play an active role in the law school’s faculty exchange program and faculty workshop series. In addition, he will focus on opportunities to improve the visibility of faculty scholarship and to enhance the overall intellectual life of the law school.

Drahozal, a productive and distinguished scholar in his own right, began teaching at the law school in 1994. His research focuses on the law and economics of dispute resolution, particularly arbitration. He is serving as an Associate Reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement (Third) of the U.S. Law of International Commercial Arbitration and as chair of the Consumer Arbitration Task Force of the Searle Civil Justice Institute.

"I'm thrilled to be in a position to help further the research mission of the law school,” Drahozal said. “My colleagues are doing a lot of exciting work, and I look forward to supporting that work in whatever ways I can."
