Courtney Johnston
Hi! My name is Courtney Johnston, and I am a third-year law student from Scottsdale, Ariz. I am planning on completing my law degree in May 2011 with a certificate in Media Law and Policy and hope one day work to represent media corporations. I completed my undergraduate degrees at KU in Spanish and journalism in May 2008 and decided to move back to Arizona to start my law school career. I transferred to KU Law from the Phoenix School of Law at the beginning of my second year and could not be happier with my decision!
One of the main reasons that I decided to transfer to KU was because of the clinical opportunities available to students here. With 12 different clinics offered, there is something for everyone. Last spring, I participated in the Media Law Clinic, where I wrote a paper about the stalking case of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and how the Internet played a part in her exploitation. In addition to being a Student Ambassador, I am involved in Phi Alpha Delta and am a very proud member of the KU Law basketball camping group.
One of my favorite parts about KU and the Lawrence community is that there is always something to do if you need a break from studying! Kansas basketball games are full of tradition, and Allen Fieldhouse is conveniently located across the street from the law school. If basketball is not your thing, the Lied Center always has a fabulous lineup of concerts and performances, and Kansas City is only 40 minutes away.
I’m glad that you are considering KU for your legal education. If you have any questions about law school, KU basketball or anything else, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at courtj@ku.edu. Rock chalk, Jayhawk!
