Kristen Koenen
Hi! My name is Kristen Koenen, and I am in my third and final year here at KU Law. I am from Lenexa, Kan., and after living in Lawrence for my first two years, I recently returned home to accommodate my work schedule as well as school. I had grown to love this wonderfully unique city, and I find that I miss being here! In May 2008, I graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., where I earned degrees in economics, finance and marketing. As I approached graduation, I was greatly tempted by the fabulous summer-start program here at KU, but I ultimately decided to wait until fall.
During the process of choosing a law school, I was overwhelmed by the large number of excellent programs offered throughout the country. I have lived in Kansas my whole life, so I viewed this experience as an opportunity to go somewhere new. My applications ranged from West Coast to East Coast and even down South! When all was said and done, though, I simply could not pass up everything the University of Kansas had to offer.
Three years later, I could not be happier with my choice of schools. Both the faculty and the entire student body have proven to be encouraging and supportive every step of the way. The school has a wide variety of excellent academic programs, and I am very excited to see down the path my career plans will start to move. I have begun the track to pursue both the Tax Law Certificate as well as the Advocacy Certificate and hope to find a market and area to put both to use.
I am proud to have joined KU Law’s Student Ambassador program as well as the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. I also enjoyed my time volunteering for our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. I have been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in such beneficial and rewarding programs and organizations.
Thank you for showing interest in KU Law. Please continue to explore KU and discover all the things that make it so wonderful. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask! My e-mail address is kris10k@ku.edu.
Go, Jayhawks!
