Michele Kraak

Hi! My name is Michele Kraak. I’m a first-year law student. I started this summer through KU’s summer-start program. I’m an Army brat, so I’ve moved all over, and I went to Oklahoma State University for undergrad and received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism in May, 2008.

After graduation, I was a news producer at the NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City. I loved the fast-paced environment of TV news, but I have always wanted to go to law school. After being out in the real world for three years, I decided I was ready to take on this new challenge.

I chose KU Law because it has a lot of the same qualities I fell in love with at Oklahoma State. Everyone here is so friendly, Lawrence is a great college town, and KU is well known around the nation. I was intimidated at first, especially because I didn’t go here for undergrad, but I immediately felt like I belonged here. I thought the summer-start program was a great way to transition from work back to school, and it also gave me the opportunity to meet some of KU Law’s amazing faculty and get a taste of what law school is really like.

I haven’t been here long, but my experience so far has been better than I ever expected. All of the professors go out of their way to help in any way they can, and even though law school is competitive, I have developed such a close bond with so many students already. KU Law has so many organizations and events, so it’s easy to meet people and take a break from studying once in a while.

I absolutely love KU, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of my time here will be like. I know choosing a law school is hard, so I hope you’ll come by for a visit and sit in on one of the classes so you can see what being part of the KU Law community is like. Please email me anytime at michele@ku.edu if you have any questions!
