Whitney Novak

Hi there, my name is Whitney Novak and I am a first-year law student from Shawnee, Kan. I am proud to have spent my four undergrad years here at the University of Kansas, where I graduated with a degree in Journalism with a minor in History. While at KU I was involved in Student Senate and my sorority, Kappa Delta as well as attending every KU basketball game I possibly could.

As a junior, I had the incredible opportunity to spend a semester interning in Washington, D.C. in the Office of Presidential Correspondence at the White House. I fell in love with the city and returned after graduation and worked for the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress. After three years, I decided to return home where I had the great opportunity to return to my beloved alma mater to work for the KU Endowment Association.

Law school was never in my plans. The first time I event thought of law school as an option was during my senior year First Amendment and Society class in the journalism school. It wasn’t until after I returned from Washington D.C. that I began thinking about my next career steps, and I decided to take the LSAT just to “see what happened”. KU Law was always at the top of my list, and although I entertained ideas of going elsewhere, I always knew I would end up in Green Hall. After sitting in on a class and touring the building, I knew there was nowhere else I’d rather be.

Attending KU Law was the best decision I could have made. In my opinion, KU Law is the greatest value because of the quality education it provides, and the dynamic student body you become part of. I had the great opportunity begin my studies a summer starter, an option that was perfect for me. After working for four years, I was anxious to get started, and the summer start program provided an easy transition back into the academic setting. With 28 classmates, I quickly made a great group of friends and dove right in learning all of the different aspects of law school.

My English Bulldog, Spike, and I couldn’t be happier to be here in Lawrence at KU Law. I hope that you will take some time to visit Green Hall and see everything KU Law has to offer. In the meantime if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at whitneynovak@gmail.com.
