George Sand

Thanks for stopping by. My name is George Sand, and I am currently a 1L summer starter here at KU Law. Originally, I am from Leawood, Kan. I graduated from St. Louis University with a bachelor's of science in International Business. In addition to academics, while attending St. Louis University I was involved with the International Business Honors Society (AKE), the International Business Newsletter, and Greek Life. All of my undergraduate experiences contoured my choices for my future in law.

My journey to law school was unconventional compared to most. As an undergraduate international business major I had the opportunity to study business around the world. I lived in Madrid, Spain for a year studying business in a country that was in economic turmoil. I studied in Panama, where the economic and financial sector is on the rise and in Beijing, China, learning about the Chinese economy and its development in the last 20 years. Regardless of my location, I always met amiable, good-natured people whom I became friends with. From my travels I learned it is not necessarily the location that is most important, but the people. I retained this notion when making my decision for law school.

When applying to various law schools, I wanted to make sure I visited each place with an open mind. After visiting each school, I knew KU Law it was the place for me. The great atmosphere of KU Law was evident when I first walked in the door. It is nationally respected, yet also has a camaraderie that I did not see in other schools. The students are all very friendly, and the faculty is always available to help. Combined with the small class sizes, beautiful campus, and one of the best athletics teams and college campuses around, it just fit.

KU Law also has many academic and social aspects that I found appealing. KU Law offers many different clinics that will give me a chance to have real world experience that employers look for when hiring. I also enjoyed how KU Law has numerous clubs and organizations for people of all walks of life to get involved. Every day various student organizations advertise their events, meetings and philanthropies in the informal commons. From international law societies to intramural sports, KU Law is heavy on academics, yet still keeps a social balance.

Now as a 1L I have had the opportunity to experience the camaraderie first hand. As a summer started I enjoyed assimilating myself into law school, taking a couple classes and getting myself more accustomed to the law school atmosphere. Now that it is fall, I am very close with all of my fellow summer starters, the teachers, and the entering fall class. I look forward to the business law program, various clinics, and social aspects that KU Law offers.

This has been my path choosing and experiencing KU Law thus far. Everyone has a different path. I encourage you to visit the Green Hall, sit in on a class, and take a tour of the school.
