Centers & Programs
The center brings together scholars, practitioners, policymakers and students around the study and practice of international trade and agriculture, aiming to promote key issues in these areas through research and outreach in Kansas and around the world. The center sponsors conferences, hosts visiting scholars, practitioners or policymakers, and educates and trains law students.
The Tribal Law and Government Center was founded at KU to prepare a new generation of advocates, particularly American Indians and other Indigenous peoples, for careers representing Indigenous Peoples. The Center also provides a forum for discussion, research and scholarship regarding tribal legal and governance issues.
Developed in partnership with the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon, the center's core mission is to enhance the learning experience of students who aspire to be trial lawyers. The center will create opportunities for mentorship between experienced litigators and law students and provide a forum for practicing trial lawyers to share information with one another.
The University of Kansas School of Law has been a leader in offering both course work and clinical experience for students wanting exposure to the practice of elder law. KU offers a Certificate Program in Elder Law for those wanting to pursue a focused study on elder law and an LL.M. Program in Elder Law, a post-juris doctorate program concentrated on the study and practice of elder law.
The law school has substantially expanded its International and Comparative Law Program with additional course offerings, activities and student opportunities. KU Law offers a Certificate Program in International Trade and Finance as well as a two-year J.D. Program for foreign lawyers. Its Overseas Visiting Scholar Program further enriches the law school’s international program.
KU Law has an extensive moot court program with a long tradition of success and excellence. Students' first experience in moot court will come in their spring semester Lawyering Skills class. All students will write a summary judgment brief and engage in an oral argument before a "judge" (a law professor).
KU law students have opportunities to study abroad. The school is a founding member of a consortium that sponsors a spring semester program in London. The school also sponsors summer programs in Istanbul, Turkey and Limerick, Ireland.
The University of Kansas School of Law offers a weeklong summer program for diverse students entering their junior year of high school. The mission? To support, mentor, and encourage students to attend college and, ultimately, law school and pursue legal opportunities in the region.
